Harry Dale Knight, 93, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away March 22, 2017.
Born on July 30, 1923, in Montrose, Iowa to Warren William Knight and
Rose Ellen Dye Knight, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Albert, Dale and Warren, Jr., sisters Cora Todd and Charlotte Allen and son-in-law Michael Nagel. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Horras Knight, of Fairfield, IA and daughters Diana (Joe) Fisher, Carol Nagel, Janice (Ansel) Tupper, Jacqueline (Craig) Beaumont and sons Alan and Harry, Jr. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeremey Tupper, Alexandra (Joshua) Marrow, Sydney Beaumont and Zachary Fisher and great-grandson Nathan.
Harry served in World War II as a cargo plane pilot transporting supplies and troops in the forward combat zones of India-Burma, Central Burma and China. He led his crew through numerous missions over The Hump in China. Harry was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, 3 Bronze Stars, an Air medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and 3 major battle stars.
After his service, Harry earned a degree in Business Administration followed by a Juris Doctor from Drake University Law School. Harry met Ruth while he was in college and they married on June 12, 1948. After raising six children and enjoying a long and successful career in the insurance industry, Harry retired from his position as General Manager of Sheboygan Falls Mutual Insurance in Wisconsin. He and Ruth relocated to Hot Springs Village in 1989 and became members of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Harry’s lifelong interests included golf, fishing, cards, reading books and staying current on world affairs.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church located at 295 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, AR, Pastor Bill Elser presiding.
